How I spent my points, Part 2: Our family’s trip to Los Angeles

It started when Katie found round trip tickets from Minneapolis to Los Angeles for only 18,000 Delta miles a piece.  It was October, and we were looking at a trip in July. I guess it pays to book early! We locked in the dates and BAM! Our family vacation was planned.  6 tickets for 108,000 miles and under $67 for taxes and fees.

With a location and a time frame, we started to lay out the details.  Where would we go? What would we do? Luckily, I had plenty of Hilton points to spend.  And with their great customer service, making changes to those plans was painless.  They even found an old weekend night certificate that I thought I had used, but apparently had not.

Three nights in Santa Monica, and two in Anaheim (roof top pool no less).  We didn’t pay a nickel for our accommodations.

The cherry on top of this sundae?  Dinner for five for a penny while waiting for our flight at LAX airport. How’d we pull that off? Priority Pass is a benefit of the Hilton Aspire card from American Express.
